About the piece:
Quiet Night is a piece I wrote during my first week of
rest following the end of the UCLA school year.
Living in my apartment near campus, I witnessed what was
once a town filled with screaming 20-somethings turn into
a ghost town in a matter of days. However, I stuck around.
This piece captures the feeling I had during that first week off.
It was a sense of peace, but also hollowness and loneliness.
The atmosphere of the town, of my living space, and of my
mind during that time are all contained within this music,
using sparse textural writing, as well as ambiguous harmony,
and contrasting timbres.
The spaciousness of this piece is the most important part
of its effect. Let each rest be an opportunity to sit back...
...and just breathe.
