About the piece:

This piece is a theme in variations of a single melody I've titled "Summer Sun". In both the initial statement and recurring takes on this tune, portions of the melody are relayed back and forth between members of the quintet. It is important to recognize when you do and do not have the melody, as a performer might have it for just three eighth notes, or for as long as seven measures, and should adjust their approach accordingly.

The piece was aimed to treat the "Theme and Variations" concept as not only an exploration of rhythm, tonality, melody, etc., but an exploration of styles beyond the scope of western classical music.
The piece showcases some of my musical heritage; the first variation takes inspiration from the rhythms of Spanish Flamenco, the second variation is both a down and up-tempo jazz setting, and the rest, as I have been told by many, is a derivative work of Kazumi Totaka's Mii Channel-Plaza Music and Wii Shop Channel Music (2006).

Enjoy!
