About the piece:
The Lone Caller is a spin on the “call and response” motif present in much of the
music of African peoples. In this piece, the player is both making the call, and
responding to it themselves. The Lone Caller is inspired by the virtuosic vocal
stylings of Bobby McFerrin, traversing the wide tessitura of the trombone, and
grooving the entire time.
